What is tooth transplantation?

Problem

Tooth transplantation is a modern surgical procedure in which the patient’s own tooth is moved from one area of the jaw to another (to the site of an extracted or missing tooth). It is a unique method that allows for replacing a defect with a “living” own tooth, which, unlike an artificial implant, maintains a natural connection with the bone tissue through the periodontium.

The procedure is performed only if the patient has a healthy tooth (often wisdom teeth) that can be safely transplanted, and if there are appropriate anatomical conditions at the site of the future transplantation.

The surgeon carefully relocates the tooth, adapting it into the prepared socket, where it must successfully integrate. This allows for preserving the natural structure of the jaw, maintaining the necessary level of bone tissue, and providing the patient with full chewing function with a maximally natural aesthetic result.

Symptoms and signs

Chronic inflammation or destruction of a tooth that cannot be saved, but whose root is healthy

Presence of a healthy "donor" tooth (for example, a wisdom tooth) that does not perform a chewing function

Extraction of a destroyed tooth with available space that requires immediate restoration

If you have a tooth that needs to be extracted, or you have an "extra" healthy tooth (most often third molars), transplantation can become the most physiological way to restore the integrity of the dental arch. Timely diagnosis and assessment of tissue condition allow the oral surgeon to decide on the possibility of transplantation, which will ensure natural adaptation of the tooth in the new location.
